Living Together

In the USA there are many ways to say two people living together. Like you said theres "girlfriend" "boyfriend" "partner" to name a few. I think "partner" is really the bext way and most formal and probably the most politically correct way to say it. (thats my opinon)

I think that if your in a relationship for only a small amount of time you should have your things be yours and there thing be theirs. But after being together for a long time and you have agreed and decided not to get married and live together is okay but you should trust the other person enough to be able to get a long and compart certain things that you both share like a house for example.I think nothing is wrong with living with a person for a long time. Some people just don't want to get married. Some can't get married and some think once you get married and that didn't work out and by then your some what older and find somone eles and really you don't want to get married because its too much hassel.

Truly I think its all about trust.Karina 16 SRQ, FL, USA

Think Through Pillow Book

1) I think that the most interesting part of the Pillow Book was the dog that was banished to the dog island for chasing a important cat.

2) I believe that Shonagon sent the word to Tadataka because Shonagon does not believe that Okinamero is back.

3) N/A Active Reader.

4) I think that she means that she was suspecting a different reaction. And it surprised her that something she thought was so beautiful was not that important or impressive to other people.

5)Shanagon is her own person and she has a mind of her own which makes her unique. She does her own thing.

6)I think that characteristics of humans haven't changed like being embarrassed. No matter what race, culture, or ethnicity you are people get embarrassed. Another thing is people falling in love. Whether its now in the 21st century or thousands of years ago certain things never change.

Think Through

1) I think that the third poem was more descriptive and used a lot adjectives.

2) I think he was referring to a war. "Land of plague and fever" is about the bodies and the plague that killed them. The "horned dragons" were the enemies.

3) The theme was about a once beautiful palace was destroyed. It talked about, red autumn leaves scattered over the place and about his gold chariot that's now gone.

4)It talks about someone hugging a baby to their chest to muffle her screaming. Which wouldn't appear in a history book because it's not personal.

5)N/A active reader.

6)They both talked about statues/monuments. But on the Jade Flower poem it was about the destruction and Ozymandias was about the building of a statue.

7)Yes they do support this statement.Because he used some heavy topics like war but by using so many small details made it come to life.

8)It related to now at days because there are still wars going on today. So the modern day soldiers and families can relate.

Women in Botswana

Life for women in Africa is very difficult. Things vary from tribe to tribe and from town to town but most of them have a core of a struggled life full of hardships that nobody would ever want to endure. In the following paragraphs I will explain some about the women in Africa in general.
Lots of women in African towns have no rights. Men are superior to them. They think they are lower then men due to their culture and what they been told through the generations. Many say that they are inferior compared to men. Also sometimes to raise their social status they will provoke men and wear certain clothing and prostitute.
The women's job in their tribes varied but in most cases they did the normal things you would expect. They maintain the house and fetch wood and water. Also they worked in fields unlike men. Men usually did cattle herding. Women had skill in basket weaving and craft making.
Many women try to get ahead but its so hard because of the way society most males perceive women. They don't have much opportunities for employment because nobody wants to employ a women for a normal job. Many things hinder them such as human resources and access to financial resources. Also they don't have the much or even any access to innovative or appropriate technologies.
In conclusion life in Africa is pretty confusing for women. I think its a hard dangerous way of life. With the spread of AIDS its deadly. But when you are given a situation like that, the best you can do is make it through life with a smile on your face no matter how hard it is.

Homosexuality

Homossexualty is a subject that is very contreversial. Especially in the United States. I think being gay is that persons business and other people that are not gay shouldn't be making desicions about gay people. Like if they can get married or not. That is there life and their business. Theres nothing wrong with being gay.

Some people think homosexuailty is what your born with. Some say it a choice. Really I think that it could possibly be genetic but you don't notice it until puberty when you start seeing the oppisite sex or in this case the same sex in a new light you become more mature and your feelings come out.

USA and Americans

The USA is probably one of if not the most powerful nation in the world. America is a great place to live. There are so many opportunities here. Plenty of jobs and we are economically stable.

A lot of people don't like Americans they think we are all stuck up. They think we all like the decisions that Bush makes. They think that we Americans think we are superior nobody thinks about that. We like other cultures. That's what makes America, America the fact that we have many cultures, the fact we are so well rounded.

I actually have immigrant parents. My mother and father are both Cuban. That does not change my opinion about the United States it actually makes me love the USA more. The fact we have more freedom then other countries makes us great. Americans love to travel and experience the world and other cultures we are not shallow people.

Chinese Poetry

1) I liked the second poem the most because it was the easiest to comprehend. In my interpretation I think the the character was home sick.

2)The relationship between the speaker and her husband was bad and distant. She got married when she was 14 which isn't that old in my opinion, I think she was too young and immature to be in a relationship and since shes 14 they probably didn't know each other too long before they got married.

3) I think the character in the story liked the moon and the sky and that he was a little homesick and that's why he would dream of home.

4)I believe that the character gets memorized by the water and he thinks its beautiful, and then he imagines that hes somewhere else like heaven.

5)Visualizing the poem was helpful because it helps you feel and see what the speaker feels and the more descriptive the poems the more you can visualize and feel.

6)The two poem are about love and the speaker is in love with a male. But the "Mulberry on the Lowland" poem is more joyful and happy but, "The River-Merchant's Wife" is more sad and depressing and how she will anyways will be waiting for him.

7)Today people view nature as a need to conserve it. Lots of people are obsessed with conserving nature and making it beautiful and keeping it alive.

Poetry of Ancient Rome

1) I thought the advice given in the poems were truthful and wise. In the first one it is better to live life and not worry. In the second poem it's true because it means that things always bad forever and that not everything is as bad as it seems.

2)He told Leuconoe to accept whatever is bothering him and have fun and live for the moment. Because something probably happened to Leuconoe which he didn't like or can not accept.

3)I think it means that its better to live with what you have and not rub it into other peoples faces and be thankful because if you rub it in it might be taken away.

4)I think that the "Seize the Day" was more simple to understand and more straight forward to the point then "Better to live...".

5)They both teach because they both have morals in the story. But they are delight because the way he tell the story and uses similes and metaphors.

6)In the first poem he says "...this is the last that breaks the Etruscan sea against the rocks." It made me imagine the sea crashing against rocks in my mind. In the second poem it talked about a giant pine tree swaying in the wind.

7)I think that the second poem was better in the fact that more people forget to live humble and thankful then the other poem that the moral is more common. More people remember to live life. But not everyone remembers were they come from until it's gone.

8)I think it means that you shouldn't make your hopes so big just in case it won't happen. I believe in both sides because if you have big dreams and you really believe you can achieve them then it could be possible. But never the less you shouldn't make them too big and then not get them and get your hopes up and then be disappointed and sad and sob for the rest of your life.

LOVE

Love can be many things. There are diffrent types of love depending on the realtionship bettween the two people involved. But there are diffrent kinda of love.

The love between family is diffrent then the love between lovers(partners). The love of family is more caring and looking out for eachother. It is kind of a motherly love. But the love bettween two people that are partners in life is more deep more passionate what most people considered to be "love". Don't get me wrong their both powerful and precious and strong but they are diffrent in how the people in the realtionship treat eachother.
